PORTLAND, Ore. – Police temporarily closed Brooklyn Park in Southeast Portland after an officer found a small homemade explosive device while taking a man into custody Sunday morning.
Witnesses flagged down police at the park and said a man armed with a gun was making threats. Officers took 49-year-old Michael Daniel Moore into custody just before 11 a.m.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said an officer searched the man’s bag and found two handguns and the explosive device. The device was in a small plastic bottle.
Police closed the park and called the bomb squad to investigate. They disabled the device and police reopened the park Sunday afternoon, Simpson said.
Moore faces charges including felon in possession of a firearm and manufacturing and possessing a destructive device.
