Crash causes natural gas leak in SE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – A car crashed through a fence, hit a house and ruptured a natural gas line in Southeast Portland Saturday afternoon, police said.

No one was hurt, but Southeast 41st Avenue between Hawthorne Boulevard and Clay Street could be closed for several hours while crews repair the leak.

Some neighbors evacuated their homes as a precaution, police said.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, causing the crash.
