PORTLAND, Ore. - A woman died Tuesday afternoon from injuries suffered after being hit by a school bus in Southeast Portland.

Renee Bates, 41, was crossing at a crosswalk with her husband, Shawn, when they were hit by the bus. Renee was taken to the hospital badly injured. Doctors there could not save her. Her husband did not need medical attention, officers said.

The major crash team responded to the accident.

The West Linn School District bus was carrying two children, neither of whom was injured, when it struck the couple at Southeast 148th Avenue and Division Street.

Police said the couple lives in the neighborhood.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The driver was not impaired, police said.

Police have issued no citations and the crash investigation is continuing.
