PORTLAND, Ore. - Free is a very good price and with the help of an iPhone/Android app, you can get in for absolutely nothing at some local attractions.

It's all part of a promotion by Google. From now through the end of July, they're offering free admission at the Pittock Mansion, Portland Art Museum and Portland Children's Museum through their Field Trip app.

The app uses your location to alert you to cool stuff that's nearby. And for the next few weeks if you show up at one of these three places, a free pass will automatically show up in the app's 'Nearby' tab. All you have to do at that point is show that pass to the ticket desk and you're in - just like that.

Portland is one of seven cities across the United States where Google is running this promotion. In case you'll be traveling in the next few weeks, the other free attractions are:

Chicago
Museum of Contemporary Art
The Field Museum

Los Angeles
Museum of Contemporary Art

Washington, D.C.
Crime Museum
National Building Museum
President Lincoln's Cottage

Reno
Nevada Design Museum
Terry Lee Wells Discovery Museum

San Francisco
Conservatory of Flowers
de Young Museum
Exploratorium
Legion of Honor
Walt Disney Family Museum

New York City
Bronx Zoo | Central Park Zoo
Prospect Park Zoo | Queens Zoo
Museum of the City of New York

On a related note, if you're a Bank of America customer you can take advantage of their Museums on Us perk. During the first full weekend of each month, your bank card will get you in free at more than 150 museums, science centers, botanical gardens and more across the United States.
