PORTLAND, Ore. - On your next hotel stay, ask the concierge which footwear brand makes the house sneaker.

If they don't have an answer, then you're not staying at the Ace Hotel.

Converse, a subsidiary of Nike Inc., on Friday will release the third version of an exclusive sneaker designed for the Portland-based boutique hotel chain the Ace Hotel.

The Converse x Ace Hotel Pro Leather is a minimalist, white high-top sneaker which Converse says "captures the zeitgeist of modern street wear with premium materials and an Ace Hotel 'A' all-over pattern."

The story of how Converse came to make a hotel sneaker dates back to to 2009, when Ace was preparing to open its New York hotel. The company asked Converse to develop a reissued sneaker exclusive for the staff of the new hotel.

“Converse is an iconic brand that transcends age and geography — a true staple for independent spirits of all kinds," Ace Hotel co-founder Alex Calderwood said in a news release issued by Converse.

The latest version — we're told the previous versions are all sold out, at least in Portland — will be available for $120 at the Ace Hotels in Portland (1022 S.W. Stark St.), New York, Palm Springs and Seattle and online at shop.acehotel.com.
