PORTLAND, Ore. - Divers headed back into the Willamette River on Sunday to try to find a man who went under the night before and never came back up.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Saturday near the South Waterfront District.

Witnesses said a man and a woman were trying to swim across the river, got tired and started struggling. A boater who heard cries for help was able to rescue the woman, but could not find the man. Rescuers spent Saturday evening and Sunday morning searching for him, but were also unable to find him.

The man is presumed drowned.
