Driver in Vancouver crash dies in hospital

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The driver in a crash that split a car in half in Vancouver early Monday morning has died in the hospital, police said.

Molly Mayo was thrown from the car during the crash. She was taken to a hospital where she died.

The passenger, Caylie Nelson, had injuries that were less severe. She was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said the two 19-year-old women were in a Volkswagen Jetta speeding on Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard just before 2 a.m. Mayo was passing other cars when she lost control of the car and crashed into a pole near 123rd Avenue, splitting the car in half.

Both women are from Vancouver.

Investigators said alcohol played a role in the crash.
