PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon unemployment rate did not budge in April, making it six straight months without any significant change.
The Oregon Employment Department said the jobless rate last month was 10.6 percent, the same as March.
But that was nearly a point less than April 2009, when the rate was 11.5 percent.
Officials said there also was some improvement in seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment, which rose by 3,900 jobs. That follows a loss of 700 in March.
The April increase was the largest monthly gain in two and a half years.
Nationally, the jobless rate rose slightly to 9.9 percent in April from 9.7 percent in March.
