Five things to do this weekend: Dec. 11 - 13

Looking for ways to get into the cold over the weekend? Get out and enjoy the weather with horse-drawn carriage rides, pet photos with Santa, holiday light displays, free hot cider at local tree farms and a chance to shred the evidence of years past. Here are five ways to get into the spirit of the season this Friday, Dec. 11, to Sunday, Dec. 13:

Community Shred Event
It's time to shred those sensitive documents! On Friday Farmer's Insurance is sponsoring a docu-shred event from 7 to 9 a.m. at its Hillsboro location, 23175 N.W. Bennett Street. Donate diapers, infant clothing, baby wipes or $5 to $10 for each box or bag to be securely shredded. Donations benefit Community Action of Washington County.

Carriage Rides in Lake Oswego
Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through Lake Oswego from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, and Dec. 19. Rides start at Millennium Plaza Park - between First Street and Evergreen Road - and meander through the streets of downtown Lake Oswego. Cost is $3 for adults and $1 for children 10 and under. Aspen Meadow Christmas Display "Light Up"
This free light display in Colton, Ore. - near Oregon City - will be flipped on 6 p.m. Saturday. Lights stay on through Jan 1. This is a commemorative home display, open to the public, that includes a traditional "light up" ceremony, heated areas, movies, children's toy land, and live music later in the week. Cans of food can be donated. Tips for family fun.
