KATU News Alert is an innovative news alerting system brought to you by KATU News and katu.com. KATU News Alert allows you to apply unique filter mechanisms to the stream of stories from katu.com, so you receive only news and information you are interested in.

You choose the method by which you are alerted to a story of interest. Your options include alert boxes, a sliding news ticker and/or e-mails.

About the full version

In the full Desktop version the application is the "receiver" portion of the system. It is a small, efficient program less than 200 Kbytes in size which runs in the background on your computer.

The application lets you filter the news through categories of interest and/or specific keywords (triggers), so that only news and information alerts that fall within your interests categories or that explicitly match your Triggers list are delivered to you.

When an alert is delivered to your computer, it is displayed in either an Alert Popup window, Mini-slider window, or an Alert Ticker window based on your settings. In any case, whether you're logged in or not, the alert will be delivered directly to your Alert Messages List so you can catch up on the news at your convenience.

Alerts can also be received via e-mail in a digest format every hour, two hours, four hours, or once per day. Urgent breaking news alerts can be e-mailed to you immediately when a big story breaks.

Web based / E-mail only version

KATU News Alert is also available as a web-based service that will send you the news via E-mail only. This version does not offer all the features of the installed software version but is a good choice for people who can't install software on their PC or who are using a non-Windows machine.

Minimum recommended configuration requirements for the application include any modern computer running WindowsNT® (or later); Internet Explorer® version v5.5 (or later), Netscape® v6.1 (or later), or OperaT v7 web browsers. The application supports dial-up or better connections to the Internet.

Important Note: Many anti-virus programs and even some browsers contain built-in suppression of popups. Ads, and/or images. The default settings of such software may interfere with the normal operation of this program. Please refer to the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for more information regarding configuration of your anti-virus software to allow normal operation of this program.
