PORTLAND, Ore. – We have the latest list of spots to stay cool in Multnomah County as the temperature heats up, plus two in the city of Milwaukie that are posted at the bottom.

 City of Milwaukie Cooling Centers

  • Milwaukie Center at 5440 SE Kellogg Drive will be open M-F, 8:30-5pm as a cooling center. They will respond to requests from seniors in the Milwaukie area who need assistance, and also have some fans for seniors without them.
  • St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church at 2036 SE Jackson Street (downtown) will open from 2-8 Saturday and Monday as a cooling center, and will be open Sunday for their usual "Feed the Hungry" program.

Portland Rescue Mission

The Portland Rescue Mission will be offering a cooling center on Sunday and Monday (Aug. 15-16) at their facility on 111 W. Burnside between the hours of 12 and 6 p.m.  There is a possibility of extending the cooling center later in the week if the weather warrants it.

For Your Pets - Oregon Humane Society

OHS is offering its lobby as a cooling center for individuals and their animals who are suffering from the heat. OHS is located at 1067 N.E. Columbia Blvd. The OHS cooling center will be open Aug. 14-15 during normal shelter hours (10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Sunday). If the heat wave persists, the center will remain open on Monday (10 a.m. - 7 p.m.)
