What to do now in case you are robbed in the future
The following is a press release courtesy of the Eugene Police Department:
Last quarter, more than $918,629 worth in property was stolen from Eugene residents. Statistics show that stolen property reported with a serial number results in a higher rate of recovery. A written and/or photo inventory of your valuable property, may help to identify your property to police in the event it is stolen or recovered.
- Your inventory should list each item's make, model, size, type, and serial number, if any, in its written description.
- If you have an item that can be marked, engrave or mark it with a distinctive number or name (do not use an identity sensitive number such as social security number).
- Photo or video records can also be very helpful. Once your home inventory is complete, make a copy and store it in a safe place like a safety deposit box.
- Don't forget to update your inventory for major purchases!
- Make a separate inventory of expensive holiday gift purchases to put in a safe place until the holidays are over, in case your home is burglarized and the gifts stolen.
