The street was named for a purpose, Just like union ave. Names should stay the same, when the city expands then name a street in the honor of those that leave a impression on society. - Norm

I find it touching that Portland would want to complement a man that did so much for the Hispanic community.  BUT, changing the name of a main thoroughfare doesn't make sense. And with so many illegals', WHY? The streets that have been changed for the African American community was one thing, because they are a part of our American History.  They didn't come into this country illegally, or jumping fences to get here.  They came kicking and screaming, and made the best of it.  AND have fought many a battle for this country.  Our forefathers of this country, named for a great many streets in every town, show our beginnings. Why would we want to look at a street that reminds us of illegal immigrants? - Gail

Why is it that North Portland is the first area people think of when they want to change a name of a street?  We already have 2 recent name changes Union Ave  to MLK Blvd and Portland Blvd to Rosa Parks way why not spread the name changes around to other areas.  - Linda

If these people want to name a street no matter what the name, why don't they go to the cities and have them name new streets instead of costing us the tax payers more money.  I think Rosa Parks was a great lady, however I think it is nuts for us to have to pay to rename and change signs and for people to be confused or better yet for the maps to be wrong.  I heard that one of the people going around getting to the neighborhoods lives in Tigard why don't they name a road out there with Cesar Chavez. There are Latino's all over our three counties.  I am sick and tired of people using our tax dollars for things like this when we need to fix our roads take care of our children and our elderly.  Grow up and stop spending my money and our local businesses and effecting the trickle down without looking at the big picture.  These people have been very sneaky and have gone to the Outlook neighborhood, Kenton and when they went to the Arbor Lodge neighborhood they even told a reporter to turn off his recorder.    If there is smoke there is usually fire.  Stop Portland from throwing away more of my money. - Irene

Renaming main artery streets/boulevards etc.... is a confusing and for businesses, a costly thing to do. Can't there be an easier way to honor people like perhaps renaming a city park? - Laurie

Is this another lousy idea by Mayor Tom Potter. - Bill

I am so tired of people needing to be recognized.  There are so many Plan Jane's that get absolutely no recognition but yet the people of different race, religion (except Christian), sexual orientation ect get recognized.  There are a lot of people who make this Country go around besides just them.  It seems that we are going out of our way to make the U.S. look like everyone accepts differences.  If so why go to such great lengths? - Leah

I also think that the Burnside Bridge should be renamed Potter Bridge and Naito Ave should be renamed after Randy Leonard.  and Sam Adams needs something named after him,  Give me a break. - Anonymous
