Cops asked to leave Denny's restaurant for carrying guns
A group of Illinois police officers trying to order restaurant food got an order to leave unless they got rid of their weapons. Talia Kaplan has the story.

The real issue here is DENNY'S SUCKS. I can't remember the last time I actually ate at a Denny's because..well.. ya know..DENNY'S SUCKS.
This is a classic case of people being afraid of the tool while ignoring the person holding it.
Â
A tool is just that, at tool. It does nothing until someone picks it up and uses it. The person using the tool is either going to be responsible while using that tool or not. If they use the tool irresponsibly it is not the fault of the tool. It is the fault of the person.
They were in plain clothes. I can understand why their presence might make other costumers uncomfortable. Sure it's part of the job, but part of the job also includes not being welcomed wherever you go if you carry a gun.
Wow!!!!!
I hope this Denny's get held up, soon and repeatedly. What do you think the response time will be for this one?
That MANGER SHOULD BE FIRED! and No Possibillity of given any other job unless it is Dishwasher. this is not right to ask an officer to disarm..the police have enough issues.
They have the right to eat when ever and where ever they desire with out feeling threatened. Now I would agree if one of the officers had a bad reputation and was forced to leave the force then I would refuse them service.
It sounds to me that Denny's just stated that they don't want police protection!
@Freedom1267  Meanwhile the criminals are planning the next place they are going to rob and Denny's high at the top of their list.
@dkgiovenco  @Freedom1267 What? Like the police aren't going to show up because they weren't welcome in a non-emergency?
@PDXguy23  @Freedom1267  I would not be in any hurry to help them.
The first rule of concealed carry is CONCEALMENT. These "cops" failed that test and alarmed customers.
Â
The manager had every right to have them leave regardless of their later claim to be cops. Surely, that would not have excused a CWP holder and if that CWP refused to comply then the manager would surely have called the cops who would have cited the CWP holder for failing RULE #1.
Â
Being a cop doesn't excuse appropriate behavior or exempt a person from the laws; if anything, cops should be held to an exemplary standard of conduct.Â
Â
Then punitive decision by the chief against Denny's simply reinforces bad conduct by cops.
Â
Â
FAIL and DOUBLE FAIL>
Looks like Denny's Corporate set the manager straight and all is well again in Belleville, Illinois.
Â
By the way, I heard a rumor they have a management position open...
What an idiot.
People like him should not be in jobs that require any kind of rational decision-making skills.
He should be scouring garbage dumpsters...under supervision.
 @MikeyÂ
Â
But nothing about the incompetency of "undercover cops" blowing their cover, Really?
Â
This caused distress to other customers at the restaurant that saw a bunch of thugs in cheep suits with guns...they weren't cops remember because they were undercover.
Â
It is stupid that they...cops....should have EVER raised this to national attention rather than simply accepting that they screwed up and quietly leaving.Â
@Icarus @Mikey Clearly you don't like cops, however, you also clearly didn't watch the story. They weren't "undercover" as you keep saying, they were "plain clothes" detectives. There is a huge difference. They weren't trying to be "undercover". They didn't screw up, the manager did. End of story. Give it up...
An order to go?
Get outa here!
That managers son must work in portland at the R&B cafe!!
What a freaking idiot. Â Make your political statement on your own time. Â That manager is just an employee with very little common sense and I'll wager that the Denny's chain doesn't share his point of view. Â I hope they fire him. Â
Â
If that Joint gets robbed I can imagine the prompt response.
What happens during an armed robbery? Does the manager call the police? Are they only allowed to use harsh language? Like the newspaper that published the names of legal gun owners, I'm sure the public will voice their opinion with their wallets and harshly worded letters.
@Bob McMasterson What happens during an armed robbery? They call the cops and the cops do their job. It shouldn't make any difference, unless of course there's the coincidental chance that a robbery just happens to occur at a time when a couple of cops are eating there. Otherwise, it's pretty irrelevant.
Bet that manager got demoted to dishwasher or fired outright.
Wow. If I were the police I would take my time showing up to calls from Denny's. "Oh, sorry, we just couldn't make it here in time to help"
@Portlander29 If you were the police, I'd fire you.
I hope the police never eat at Denny's again! They showed their ID,and were on duty, and still asked to leave! I think, the one manager that told them they could not eat there, unless they locked their guns in their cars, let his title think he could do anything! I hope he no longer has a job!
Denny's regrets any misunderstanding? There was no misunderstanding. The manager made it pretty clear they were not welcome even after he/she knew they were cops.
Â
My guess is that gangbangers with illegal weapons eat there all the time.
Â
Â
@RalphCramden And if those gangbangers aren't committing any crimes there, why should folks be worried?
Ouch... big screw up on the part of that manager. What an idiot.
