With win, Beaverton's Ben Crane heads to Masters

At the end of a week dominated by accusations and consternation over square grooves generating more spin, perhaps it was only fitting that the Farmers Insurance Open came down to a wedge.

Ben Crane had a one-shot lead and stood 82 yards from the 18th hole, the traditional Sunday placement at Torrey Pines just over the water and below a ridge. Michael Sim had 88 yards, effectively the same shot, needing a birdie for hopes of a playoff.

Both used the conforming V-shaped grooves. And both shots spun too much.

The advantage went to Crane, for his ball stopped against the collar of the green allowing him to putt. He didn't do it very well, leaving himself 30 inches of bumpy green for par to capture his first victory in more than four years. He was surprised, only because he pledged not to keep score and didn't realize he had won until he was congratulated.

"Did I win?" Crane said to Ryuji Imada, a reaction more common on the "Price is Right" than the PGA Tour.

He was later found nearby in the yard of a different home. Some of the residences close by are vacant but it was not immediately clear if he was found near one of the abandoned homes.

Police indicated the man was wanted for burglary and that the victims knew the suspect.

Man: GPS is sending drivers down my driveway

It's the latest bit of technology most drivers never leave home without:  a GPS device.

The small gadgets, which use the Global Positioning Satellite network, receive location information from a fleet of satellites orbiting the Earth and that information is correlated to a map inside the device, showing drivers their exact location.

But just how accurate is it?

An Oregon City man says drivers trying to get into a gated community behind him are being led astray by GPS devices from one popular brand in particular: Garmin.

Brad Preston says the map information Garmin has installed on their devices is incorrectly leading drivers down his driveway.

Preston says the map promises drivers a through road to the gated community, but the road they end up taking dead-ends on his property, near his home.
