Election 2012: 2nd-graders break down the presidential race
It's the kind of political analysis that doesn't make you want to hit the "mute" button.
KATU News dropped by by Sabin Elementary School in Northeast Portland recently to canvass the politically savvy members of Mrs. McKinney's 2nd-grade class about the election on Tuesday.

My biggest problem with the story is that the teacher told her class that we live in a Democracy. As a public school teacher, she should have the responsiblilty to teach the truth. We live in a republic, not a Democracy. A democracy is majority rule and is destructive of liberty because there is no law to prevent the majority from trampling on individual rights. Whatever the majority says goes! A republic is a government of law under a Constitution. The Constitution holds the government in check and prevents the majority (acting through their government) from violating the rights of the individual "I pledge allegence to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Repulbic for which it stands...."
I agree witht he Kid that says the "one with the most money wins" meaning bought votes
One kid really nailed it... "the one that wins is the one with the most money..." Â :-)
Are you smarter than a 2nd. grader? Vote independent.

At that age I think they will just parrot what they hear from what their parents say.I remember back in the day in jr.high placing my vote for President Ford..Of course a few years later my political ideology became polar opposite from my parents.
@noneofyourbizzness I was in Kindgergarten during the 1988 Presidential race, I wanted George HW to win the presidency, I think it was because Barbara reminded me of a sweet gentle grandmother (though I've heard that this is allegedly not the case), though my parents/grandma, were all very strong democrat influences. However, by 1990 I was in full support of Barbara Roberts (whom I still adore), and in 1992, I was for Clinton all the way. It's kind of funny how things change later on.
@pdxd Barbara Bush is bad ass! Stubborn and not always in lockstep with the Republican party on social issues.
@noneofyourbizzness An acquaintance of mine from the airline industry alleged that during an interaction with Barbara Bush on a flight, that she was quite the b----. I still want to think of her as Mrs. Claus, if she wore red with her pearls, she would look just like Mrs. Claus
those kids sound a lot like the voters who put B HO in office last time around.......
