The Portland Tribune March 3, 2011 article spoke on the North Portland Neighborhood Association not being in  total agreement on an Orphanage, being built in such a high crime area, where most crimes are committed by youth.  The Gang Task Force attentions are strong in this area.  Â

OR: Foster kids will get new havenThe Portland Tribune March 3, 2011Bridge Meadows is a soon-to-open North Portland housing development serving families in the process of adopting foster children. The two-acre complex will have a mix of 27 affordable housing apartment units for âeldersâ â defacto grandparents whoâll help care for the youth â as well as nine homes for the adoptive. I love the idea of a home away from home for children that have been abandoned.  My concern is that Bridge Meadow is in the heart of the highest crime area for youth.  Unlike the east coast model that is out a high crime area and in a rural setting. There are more involvement from the community of color, with this video showing very little African American Visibility. This must be very evident of Oregon's rapid response to  Federal Mandate to reduce the number of Native American and African American with in the it's DHS Child Welfare System?  All of the past Orphanages were closed because of the hidden horrors that went on behind close doors. It is wonderful to know that "Heroes" will be there this time  to ensure that the horrors of the past will not repeat themselves.  http://familynurturingcaringforfamilyweb-org.webs.com/
