PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Rose Festival is in full swing and some of the signature events, namely the oh-so-popular parades, are coming up in the next few weeks.

First up is the Starlight Parade, where illuminated floats light up the night, and then it's the Junior Parade, where more than 10,000 kids wind their way through the Hollywood District for what is the largest children's parade in the nation.

And finally there's the crown jewel of the Rose Festival season - the Grand Floral Parade, where flowered floats make their way from the Memorial Coliseum to downtown Portland.

If you're thinking of watching one or more of the parades, we've put together some helpful information to help you out. Just scroll down the page for a look at what's on tap this year for each parade.

As far as the rest of the Rose Festival, CityFair is already up and running at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland and next week the ships will be arriving for Fleet Week. We've also got the Dragon Boat and Milk Carton Boat races coming up.

The Grand Marshals were Will and Allie Rosenfeld, who have given back to the community by donating over $65,000 to help fund cancer research.

Fred Bear will kick off the parade with a ribbon cutting and then the fun begins. A total of 29 marching bands from local schools will be participating.

The Grand Marshal is Packy the elephant. The Oregon Zoo's famous pachyderm won't be at the parade but will be well represented. Packy just turned 50 this year and Bank of America has sponsored a float in his honor.

This year's Grand Floral Parade highlights include:

  • Marking Milestones, presented by Union Pacific - a celebration of our history.
  • We Are America - entries from the Oregon National Guard, Boy Scouts, Portland Fire Bureau and the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band.
  • We Are Oregon, presented by the University of Oregon - will be led by the Oregon Ducks,  their cheerleaders and the Duck himself.
  • We Are the World, presented by The Boeing Company - an international flair

If you do go, keep in mind that parade spots cannot be marked in advance by tape, paint or chairs. However, camping will be allowed starting on Friday, June 8.

The Regence Grand Floral Walk is also on Saturday, June 9. More than 2,000 walkers will follow the Grand Floral Parade route starting at 9:30 a.m.
