NE Portland liquor store part of pilot program to sell beer and wine

PORTLAND, Ore. - Washington state may be getting all the attention for revamping its liquor laws but Oregon is quietly making a shift as well.

A look at the shelves in the Hollywood Liquor Store in Northeast Portland shows something unusual. Not only will you find bourbon and gin, but also beer and wine.

The liquor store is one of four in the state that are part of a pilot program that lets them sell the full range of spirits.

Customers we talked to love the idea of one-stop shopping.

"I can't think of a reason not to have it all in one place," said Jay Bjorkland. "And for that matter, why not have alcohol in supermarkets?"

"You don't have to take two stops - you just stop at one place," said Jacquelyn Ray. "(It's) very convenient.

Oregon is one of the few states that still controls liquor sales. Washington state opened up the business to private enterprise this month.
