Time to start thinking about getting rid of that Christmas tree

The holidays are over and if you have a live Christmas tree, you'll need to figure out how to dispose of it so it doesn't become a fire hazard. Not to worry - we've put together some information to help you out. You can also call Metro's recycling hotline at (503) 234-3000 with any questions.
First Step - Prep Your Tree
To get started, make sure you prepare your tree properly - remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, stands and any other materials. Most trees are ground up as part of the recycling process and foreign material can ruin a chipping machine. And go ahead and include your wreath or swag - just remove any extras that are on them. And keep in mind that some places might not accept flocked trees.
Find a Place to Recycle Your Tree
For the Portland area, Metro has an online database that can help you quickly find a recycler that will take your Christmas tree. It's a comprehensive list that will even tell you where the Boy Scouts will be collecting trees and give you options to support other non profits.
In the Vancouver area, Clark County has a list of tree recyclers that you can check out.

 The first at 12th and Hines, second at South Salem Walmart on Commercial and the third at Liberty Christian Church between South Liberty and Skyline.  Our drop off dates are Friday Dec 28-Sunday 30, and Saturday Jan 5, Sunday January 6.  All sites open from 8:30am-4:30pm.
The day after Christmas is time to start thinking about getting rid of the tree????? In our family - and many orthodox Christian faiths - the twelve days of Christmas are observed, culminating in the celebration of Twelfth Night and the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. We get our tree on the 24th, and decorate it that night, so no way are we ready to think about taking it down yet!
Â
Happy 2nd Day of Christmas....
Also, for Lake Oswego residents, you can have your limo driver dump them off to be recycled.
I take all the neighbors trees and cut them up and burn them for heat in my wood stove.
 @RalphCramden  You'll be in a lot of trouble if they ever catch you! ;-}
 @ClackaSamÂ
I am sure they might complain but it is wood and it is a wood stove. They wouldn't like me burning all the cardboard in there either. But it does create heat and saves money.
The best use of old trees is to find a farmer willing to drop them along a fence line or near a non-tillable wetland to act a Wildlife habitat... the trees provide cover for small Wildlife, act as a natural low profile wind break and will naturally decompose into usable and sustainable soil! Since they also tend to stabilize the soil along streams and filter runoff, many of my friends accept them with a smile ><(((({ * , >
"The holidays are over" -- hey! It's only the 2nd of the 12 days of Christmas and New Year's day isn't until next Tuesday. I'm not anywhere near done with the holidays...
 @NeitherPartyÂ
Party on Garth....8-}
I sure hope most folks will opt for recycling their trees! Seeing them laying around in roadside ditches is not good!
Mine are turned into compost by the local yard debris site. Or donated ($3-5) to boyscouts to run through their chipper
