Until now, the only way to find out what people in the United States eat and how many calories they consume has been government data, which can lag behind the rapidly expanding and changing food marketplace. Researchers are trying to change that.
Federal health regulators say an experimental insomnia drug from Merck can help patients fall asleep, but it also carries worrisome side effects, including daytime drowsiness and suicidal thinking.
We have one like this outside of our church's food bank
We have one in our neighborhood. It's been there for sometime.Off Todd Street in Beaverton.
I drive by one in Hillsdale and I think it's a great idea!
The first one is in Gresham, OR.
very lovely, and such a wonderful sharing idea
There is one up in a Milwaukie neighborhood as well
Sadly the one my neighbor has people put their trash in it.
Cute..! Â They look like slightly over-sized birdhouses... Â :-)
Watch a coalition of publishing companies backed by Disney, Warner and Sony file suit to stop this.
Put one in Sandy!! :) Thats awesome
Cool!
Great idea! Good for you.
Perhaps if the city library were not closed on Mondays, these wouldn't be needed?
Lehi Utah has a convenience store with a book rack for kids. They pick a book, read it and bring it back. When they give the clerk a short oral report, they can choose a banana, apple or slurpee.
Had one installed in front of our house today!
Pretty cool idea actually. Good for them! Just hope they do not get vandalized!
I've seen like that in Gresham years ago!
Right. I don't see them lasting long.
THIS is great, but somethings tell me the hoodlums wouldn't think so, They would have it busted up in no time..
I want one in my neighborhood
Just got home from visiting a new one in North Portland, found some good reads!!!
Brilliant idea! I would definitely use one!
I think it's a wonderful idea. The trick is to keep the creepy vandals away.
Cool!
Great idea! Although, I would be a bit worried about thieves.
One in my neighborhood in Bethany :)
I have so many books I would like to share! Maupin, OR
I wish a scout working on their Eagle badge would build one for our neighborhood park!
Yes--We have one!
Great idea!
I love it...
How protected are the book from the weather?
Do you have to be quiet while looking at the selection?
I have seen these over Portland and Gresham. I think they are a cute idea.
love it, Ben Franklin (established first library in USA) would be proud !!!!
is there a tiny librarian inside
Someone will just steal them!
Kourtney Wessels!
My new neighbor has put one similar at the end of her driveway. A book exchange.
Only if it was open on Mondays ;-)
I saw something like this in Elfin Cove, Alaska. Very handy in that teeny tiny town.
Set up for vandals
"Little libraries popping up in Yamhill Co. yards"
Yep. We have succumbed to the idea that libraries no longer are for reading, but for watching videos. Hence, the title and the video of this article.Â
KATU is getting more and more lazy. Â
Once again, I come here to read first then decide if I really need to see video. On the other hand this has been a constant at Marinas all over the North West. Everywhere you go on the Columbia and Puget Sound every Marina has a small libarary of used books. So people who sleep on Dirt are finally catching up, yes I live aboard my Sailboat and for the life of me can not sleep well on land.
What do you have, an Ericson 20?
@Mechanic Where would you put the 40" flat screen?
@Mechanic No, I have a Custom Built 30' Pilot House Cutter built by the Wooden Boat School in Port Townsend, It is also encased in epoxy so it is technically a Composit boat. I bought it 2 years ago in Everette Wa and sailed Puget Sound for the Spring and Summer then sailed down the coast back home to St. Helens. I have a 20hp Yanmar and lots more room than I need and no lawn to mow.
@Welfair Chick @swede760 The last thing I am worried about is attracting females. I seem to do that without the boat, in fact it is my place to escape he opposite sex.
sigh KATU still doesn't get it. If I wanted to watch I'd have a TV and do so.....
@disgustedman I'm with you on that one!  I may have watched one clip in the past 6 months -- I tried, but I couldn't resist hearing what CakeBoy had to say on one of the stories.  My thought on watching the clips is that if I wanted to see an ad, I'd get rid of my TiVo.
