Pacific Northwest Sportsmen's Show kicks off at the Expo Center

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific Northwest Sportsmen's Show kicked off its 38th year at the Expo Center on Wednesday - attracting a large crowd on its opening day.
For hunters, anglers, boaters, off-roaders and any other outdoor enthusiasts - this is the event of the year and cars were lined up outside the Expo Center Wednesday morning waiting for the gates to open.
This year's new attraction is the indoor steelhead and salmon river - a 50-foot long, two-foot deep, 10,000-gallon water feature that simulates a natural river with pools, rocks, stumps and a riverbank.
"The Steelhead River is just about as close to real outdoor fishing as you can get indoors," show manager Bill O'Loughlin said. "It's great because the audience can see everything, including the movement of the water and how the fish react to the lures. Sometimes a hooked fish even lands in the lap of an audience member!"
The other big attraction, which has been a crowd favorite for decades, is the kids' trout fishing pond where young anglers can keep or release a live trout. Here's what else you'll find this year:
The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Portland Expo Center on North Marine Drive. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for juniors (ages 6 to 16) and free for kids 5 and under. Adults can also purchase a two-day pass for $18.
- $2 discount coupon (excludes the weekend, not valid on the two-day pass)
Parking at the Expo Center is $8, but if you take a few friends or family members you can take advantage of the $7 carpool rate (for three or more in a vehicle). There is also off-site parking at Portland International Raceway and Portland Meadows for $6, which includes a free shuttle ride to the show. If you would rather take public transportation, the MAX Yellow Line stops at the Expo Center.
I worked hard so I don't have to cook outdoors like a hobo unless I'm entertaining liberals. Â I don't need a homo fashion show to glamorize plaid and men who cook. Â What's next, men who feel and are aware of envrionmental issues? Â This is just wrong for the NW.
@Benjamin Schniffle You don't know diddly about the NW.
@Benjamin Schniffle I go for the good deal on fishing lures. I have no idea what your're talking about.
after seeing peter krumnerfeld you will fall asleep each night with his gentle voice telling you survival techniques
Sounds like fun! Maybe next year! :)
This could be the last one of these events if the gun control ban and measures take place...I am going because I believe this could my last chance to go to a gun expo in Oregon!
@portlandborn83 gun control ban means banning gun control, which is not what's happening.
@GNTLwarrior  @portlandborn83 There is no reasoning to dumb people. if he thinks they are going to ban all guns your not going to talk him out of that thought in his pea brain.
@portlandborn83 Have fun regardless though.. but I agree with Arcanix, its not a gun show, while there may be some there, the sportsmens show is whole lot more!
@portlandborn83 Its not a gun expo.
Â
It also includes "hunting". Have fun hunting without a firearm, or bow and arrow. Â
Beauty in the eyes of the beholder? Or, socially acceptable is what ever might makes right? LOLÂ
@jpk
Social acceptance;Â Itâs the difference between art at the museum and inventory at a porn shop.
