12 Days of Black Friday: Early Ad Strategies

Remember the days when you’d have to wait for the newspaper on Thanksgiving morning to get that thick stack of Black Friday ads?  Now you can find many of those ads online weeks ahead. 

Some may be fake, some may be early leaks, but some are real. The Problem Solvers came across Target’s and Walmart’s ads, which show both stores plan to be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart’s Black Friday plan involves releasing sales in waves. The first set of deals starts at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Then at 10 p.m., look for deals on electronics. The final wave comes at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

Ten-year-old Julia Archer is looking forward to the sales.  “I really want a tablet,” she said.

Julia may want to have her parents check out Walmart’s deal on the iPad 2, which goes on sale Thanksgiving Day at 10 p.m. for $399. Walmart is also throwing in a $75 gift card. 

If she waits, though, she might find an even better price.  According to dealnews.com, a website that analyzes prices, the iPad 2 could drop to $299 this year. So the Walmart deal with the gift card comes close, but not quite.

The one advantage with Walmart is that it is guaranteeing that you will get the iPad 2 if you are in line at the store from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thanksgiving night.

Toys R’ Us’ Black Friday ad was also leaked this weekend.  It shows deals on Wii U titles and toys for gamers, with doorbuster savings starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The biggest savings come when you bundle a gaming unit with accessories or games. For the little girls in your life, Disney Princess items are also on sale for up to 60 percent off.
