Boat with Japanese writing washes up north of Florence

FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) — A 24-foot boat with Japanese writing on it has washed up on a beach north of Florence and been removed to a landfill.
The find raises the possibility it's more debris from the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. But the state Parks and Recreation Department says it has not been able to determine the boat's origin or date of loss.
The department says it found no pollution or other hazardous material. A state Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist said some of the marine life aboard appears not to be native to Oregon, and samples were sent to Oregon State University for identification.
The non-motorized boat was spotted Thursday by volunteer monitors organized by the Oregon Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. It washed up at Muriel Ponsler Memorial Wayside beach.

This whole deal is such an overblown crock of ship, our liberals in power are taking total advantage of us by using this as an excuse to waste millions of our tax dollars to pay over paid, over benefited under worked state employees and so called environmentalist voodoo experts to clean up and study the debris. Here's an hot news item, I have around 10 glass Japanese glass fishing floats I picked up on the beach at Pacific City 20 years ago. Should we call the National Guard? Should we quarantine the entire beach at Pacific City? Should I bring them into the nearest government agency for study? No wonder we are going broke.
"Wildlife biologist said some of the marine life aboard appears not to be native to Oregon" Â REALLY? Â WOW!
I am getting  very tired of hearing that tag line in every article that gets shoved in our faces in lieu of news.  The boat came from Japan, check.  The boat had muscles and other stuff growing on it, check.  That growing stuff is NOT from Oregon - check.
C'mon!  That's not the only boat that ever came here from Japan!  Happens every day and it's never been a problem, been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years.  Quit the fear-mongering and additive emotionalism, just report the news and leave the dramatics to the high school kids.
@Umhal mussels
@jeepboyx9 @Umhal ok
Hahaha
Leave it on the beach and wait for our own impending devastating earthquake and tsunami to send it back.
Meanwhile, a Coke bottle with Japanese writing on the label shut down popular Oregon Coast attraction, The Devil's Punchbowl. Authorities had to rent a giant crane to carefully lift it out of the maelstrom! Major news crews packed the large parking area for hours during this horrendous environmental disaster.
@Gravity Works! Lol'd.Â
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.
You mean it won't be put on Craig's List?
Boy, no kidding, I would think it should buff out just fine. Make a little money off of it.
Snore... every time something washes up from Japan we are going to be subjected to a news release about it? Â Hey KATU - we were told years ago that Oregon would be subjected to Japanese tsunami beach wash ups like this.Â
Kind of beyond repitious to keep on keeping on - reporting about it. We will be subjected to years and years of more of this. Just in case KATU couldn't figure that out.Â
I personally find it fascinating every time something washes up on the beach from Japan. Truly God works in mysterious ways!
Couldn't we just send it back? Or take it over to the Atlantic coast so it can continue? Eventually, it really might make it back to where it came from!
@englishdaisy Let me know if you see Godzilla, Rodan, or Mothra comming, now that I want to here about. plastic bottles, gum wrappers, and small boats, not so much
@englishdaisy Wait!  You missed that each one would be a breaking news event!
Not to mention all the gas money to get a news reporter out there with camera crew. Oh, the salaries!!!!!!!
@jpk So THAT's what they're doing when they should be writing and reviewing copy!  We have our answer.  That, and it seems they want a free vacation.
Is every piece of debris that washes up on the Oregon coast gonna be absolutely, fantastic important news that we just gotta know?
Dunno, but you clicked on the link...
i find this really sad... the photos especially.Â
@lalady The picture of the boat to you is sad?  Oh, lordie -- stay away from the beach -- there are empty shells there where the sea creatures must have died, there's cigarette butts where the smoker may have COPD, there's used condoms....never mind.Â
@Sundowner @lalady hm. i guess it's the actual photographs that i think look sad- not only the physical presence. thanks for the advice though.
I found another Safeway bag in my back yard today, that makes 2 in the last 3 months. I wonder where they came from.
my guess ?? Â from safeway
@Pvpbw The great Safeway tsunami of '09?  Don't let it mingle with your other garbage though because it contains non-native molecules.
@negativerep @Pvpbw At least it didn't contain cat clusters like the last bag
@negativerep @Pvpbw @Dr. Rawdog More damn illegal aliens -- that's what you're talking about, right?  Here to take our jobs and suck the government teat. Â
@negativerep .....or here on the bottom of a boat, sucking like barnacles do.
@Sundowner Noooo... but now that you mention it...
the guy in blue must be the safety
"The find raises the possibility it's more debris from the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami"----- YOU THINK!!!!!!
@LostSoul Your shouting again.
I SHOUT THEREFORE I AM
@LostSoul GOOD I LIKE THAT IN A PERSON!
