PORTLAND, Ore. – Washington voters could have an inadvertent impact on the future of how Oregonians buy their liquor.

Two initiatives on Washington's November ballot would privatize liquor sales in the state, taking the government out of the booze business.

If either initiative passes then Oregon will be the last "control" state on the West Coast. And that means Oregon likely would be next to re-examine its own system.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is a system some oppose because of its strict and sometimes "nonsensical" rules.

Indeed, the future of the OLCC is even now coming up in Oregon politics. On Aug. 25 Oregon governor candidate Chris Dudley declared his plans to abolish the OLCC, while privatizing other state services, as part of his election campaign.
