Woman camps out in yard after plane crashes into her house
AURORA, Ore. – A woman who survived when a plane crashed into her home now has a place to stay after a neighbor noticed she was camping out in her yard and needed help.
The crash happened Friday, Sept. 3 at a home on Cessna Street, near the Aurora Airport.
No one was injured - the pilot walked away from the wreckage and the woman who lives in the house, Sally Jones, was uninjured. She was walking outside her front door when the plane hit.
"I heard 'rrr' and I thought 'too close, too low' and bam! The impact knocked me off my porch - about four feet down and six feet over," she said.
Since then, Jones has been reluctant to leave her home because she has a couple of dogs and some cats.
A neighbor sent an email to KATU explaining the situation and one of our assignment editors started making calls. It turned out the Red Cross didn't know about the crash but once we told them the situation, volunteers met with Jones and got her set up in a motel that has accepted her dogs. Neighbors are looking after the cats.
