Ore. man flying from Amsterdam to PDX makes headlines, jail
PORTLAND, Ore. – An Oregon man flying from Amsterdam to Portland has made international news after lands in jail upon his arrival to PDX.
Donald Welty was arrested during a Delta flight this past Wednesday, and now faces several charges. He is accused of attempted assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and harassment.
An online profile shows he is a senior business consultant for Nike. Welty is now out on bail.
Over the Labor Day weekend CNN included a summary of his story in its news crawl.
This comes less than a week after two men were arrested in Amsterdam after suspicious items turned up in one of the men's luggage. That story created a national sensation, with photos of electronics taped to liquids that suggested a possible terrorism-attack test run. Authorities say they have ruled that possibility out.
The two men in that case were released Wednesday, the same day that Donald Welty landed in an Oregon jail.
