Pedestrian dies after being hit by car
PORTLAND, Ore. - A 40-year-old pedestrian died Friday evening in Portland after police say he was hit by a car driven by a person they believe was impaired.
Police say the victim, Allen Shelton, 40, lived near the location of the collision, which took place near Northeast 124th and Northeast Glisan Street at about 8:40 p.m.
Investigators at the scene say Shelton was not crossing the street at a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a Pontiac driven by 42-year-old Leah Priest. Shelton died at the scene.
In a press release Saturday, police said they had reason to believe Priest was driving while impaired but they did not specify what may have caused her impairment.
An investigation is continuing.
