MILWAUKIE, Ore. - A 20-year-old bicyclist ended up in the hospital Tuesday evening after hitting a car head-on.

The crash happened at Southeast McLoughlin and Southeast 22nd in Milwaukie.

The bicyclist, identified as Gabriel Lee King of Arcadia, California, was wearing a helmet and suffered non life-threatening injuries. He is currently in stable condition at the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, 61-year-old Pamela Rumage of Milwaukie, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The other bicyclist was not injured.

Here is how the crash happened, according to police:

  • King was riding with another person northbound on Southeast McLoughlin on the shoulder of the southbound lane.
  • As King crossed Southeast 22nd, he hit a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville head-on.
  • The Bonneville was being driven southbound on Southeast McLoughlin and was preparing to make a right turn onto Southeast 22nd.

No citations were issued and police determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
