City truck falls into S.E. Portland sinkhole
PORTLAND, Ore. - A giant sinkhole nearly swallowed a city truck in southeast Portland Wednesday.
The Water Bureau truck was responding to a water main break near the intersection of Southeast 32nd Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard when it happened. As the truck approached the scene, the sinkhole developed, causing the truck to tip over.
The hole is between 4 feet and 5 feet deep.
A tow truck was expected to pull the truck out. No one was hurt, and no one lost water service as a result of the incident, Water Bureau officials said.
Recent cold weather likely burst the pipe, officials said.
