Cyclist, 15, killed in crash with bus

Cyclist, 15, killed in crash with bus

BEAVERTON, Ore. - A cyclist killed Monday afternoon in a crash involving a TriMet bus was a 15-year-old student, according to police investigating the incident.

Tuesday morning, the Beaverton Police Department identified the bicyclist as Austin Miller, 15, of Beaverton.  Miller was a student at the Arts & Communication High School in Beaverton.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Southwest Farmington Road and Southwest Murray Boulevard as a bus was pulling over for a stop.

A marked bicycle lane also runs along the street where the bus stop is located.

The cyclist was dead by the time police arrived.

The driver of the bus, 53-year-old Sandra Mann, has worked for TriMet since April 2002.

TriMet originally reported the bus driver had worked for them for more than 26 years but later issued a correction that her hire date was actually in April of 2002.

Mann is on leave until TriMet completes its investigation. She has been given access to counselors from the Employee Assistance Program to help deal with the incident.

An investigation is continuing. Investigators are asking for witnesses to contact the Beaverton Police Department by calling (503) 629-0111.
