Homes evacuated in Canby due to natural gas leak
CANBY, Ore. - Firefighters spent two hours on Monday dealing with a natural gas leak in a Canby neighborhood.
The incident began around 10:30 am at a home located at 1470 S.E. 11th Loop.
Canby firefighters and Northwest Natural Gas representatives met up on scene where they found high levels of natural gas in the garage and on the ground in front of the home.
According to firefighters, this was a dangerous situation because natural gas has a "Flammable Range" of 5 percent to 15 percent, which can ignite in the atmosphere.
During the incident one entire side street was evacuated, the electricity of four homes was shut down, and one handicapped occupant and his caregiver were relocated.
Fortunately there were no explosions, fire, or any long-term damages.
