BEAVERTON, Ore. - A pit bull terrier mix that was neglected by its owner is now up for adoption.

Animal lovers got a chance to meet "Lily" Saturday afternoon at the PetSmart store in Beaverton.

The dog's former owner, Shannon Lee Shelton of Hillsboro, was convicted of animal neglect Thursday in Washington County.

She was sentenced to two years probation and 80 hours of community service. She also won't be able to possess a domestic animal for five years.

Lily was 20 pounds underweight (shown at right) when Washington County Animal Services Officer Tim Locke picked her up from Shelton at Shute Park in Hillsboro. Shelton initially claimed she had found the dog but later admitted it was hers, authorities said.

Lily was covered in urine, emaciated and had signs of irritation and burns on her feet, probably from standing in a crate in her own waste, according to officials at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter.

After nearly six months of care at the shelter and in a temporary foster care home, Lily was deemed ready for a permanent home.
