It's beginning to look a lot like ... spring?

PORTLAND, Ore. - Yes, that white stuff coming out the sky was snow.

Snowflakes fell in a number of places around the Portland-area Wednesday, and more could be on the way, according to KATU Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby.

Snow showers were visible on Highway 26 near the Oregon Zoo and the Sylvan Hill around noon.

KATU.com readers also sent in pictures of snow sticking in Hockinson, Wash., and in Mill City.

Travel may become difficult in areas 1,500 feet and higher, such as in the Coast Range and Cascades, where 3 to 6 inches could accumulate.

After about 9 p.m., the snow level should drop to about 1,000 feet. Then, overnight, it could dip as low as 500 feet, Shelby said.

"There will be pockets that see snow lower than that," she said.

A rain/snow mix will continue through Friday, when the coldest of the air may arrive. Things should improve on Saturday with the weather possibly drying out by Sunday, Shelby said.
