Wilberger suspect due in Corvallis court today
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - A New Mexico man accused of kidnapping and killing 19-year-old Brooke Wilberger is set to be arraigned in Corvallis.
Joel Courtney was extradited to Oregon from New Mexico Tuesday. Prosecutors say the 41-year-old will also face new charges that he tried to kidnap and kill two other victims in Oregon the same day he allegedly abducted Wilberger.
Courtney is accused of kidnapping and raping Wilberger, a BYU college student who vanished from Corvallis in May 2004. Her body has never been found.
Benton County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Courtney was recently sentenced to 18 years in New Mexico for a rape attack on a college student there in 2004.
