Exclusive KATU poll shows close mayoral race

PORTLAND, Ore. - In a poll conducted exclusively for KATU News by Survey USA, the numbers show a very tight race between mayoral candidates Sam Adams and Sho Dozono.

We polled nearly 600 likely Portland voters and of those polled, 39 percent said they would vote for Sam Adams if the primary were held today and 38 percent said they would vote for Sho Dozono.  The rest picked another candidate or were undecided.

"I'm very thrilled," said Dozono.  "I was kind of a little nervous about the poll numbers and I kind of was hoping for it.  This is the best news for my campaign and my supporters.  This is a horse race and I have the momentum."

Adams was a little more reserved about the poll numbers, saying it's the Election Day poll that matters to him.

"All the polls that are usually done about me in the races that I've run for always show me farther behind than what happens on Election Day," he said.  "So I don't pay that much attention to polls because I'm busy out there running a grass roots campaign."
