PORTLAND, Ore. – With news of some federal economic stimulus checks going out this week, many people are asking, "Where's my money?"

An IRS spokeswoman said the first batch of checks started going out Monday for people who:

• Filed a 2007 income tax return
• Signed up for direct deposit
• were issued Social Security Numbers with the two digits between 00 and 20.

And, yes, about 800,000 people got their money on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – including some people at KATU.

Of course, that's a small number compared to the overall population.

Another 6.9 million people should receive the cash in their bank accounts by Friday, according to the spokeswoman.

Taxpayers with Social Security Numbers ending in 21 through 75 should receive their deposits by the following Friday, May 9.

The last batch goes out by May 16.

For those of you awaiting rebate checks in the mail, the first batch will be mailed no later than May 16.
