LONGVIEW, Wash. - Police say a Longview man died after the car he was driving plunged into a slough along the Columbia River Thursday.

Washington State Police troopers say the 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was recover from a partially submerged overturned vehicle.

Police say a passing driver on State Route 432 spotted the car in the water around 6:30 a.m. and called 9-1-1.

Troopers say no one witnessed the incident so they don't know how long the car was in the water. They said it appears the car hit a power pole and then flipped into the water.

There was extensive damage to the car and investigators are looking into whether speed was a factor in the crash.

No power outages were reported.
