GREENLEAF, Idaho - Authorities say employees from a local farm near Greenleaf discovered a dog that had been bound with tape and appeared to have been beaten.

Authorities say the dog had both its front and back legs bound together with tape and its head had also been wrapped in duct tape. There was a large amount of blood in and around the back of the head and neck area.

Officials say the dog appeared to be a Shepard mix, approximately nine months to a year old, and was lying just off the roadway near a hops field close to the intersection of Van Slyke and Middle Roads.

The animal was still alive when police arrived. The dog was taken to the Canyon County Animal Shelter where it was treated by a veterinarian but was later euthanized due to its injuries.

Police say there are no suspects at this time and it is unknown if the animal had an owner.

Deputies are continuing to investigate.
