SERT members search for drug dealing suspect
By Brian Wood and KATU Web StaffPORTLAND, Ore. - A woman who was possibly held hostage at a home in northeast Portland was able to get out safely. The incident began around 6 p.m. Wednesday during a spotting mission by TriMet police investigators, who had their eye on a man suspected of dealing drugs at the MAX stop at Northeast 82nd Avenue. A foot pursuit ensued and the man was able to get away. Police were searching the neighborhood when they got a report from a resident that a man had just run out of the back of his home. "He said that somebody jumped him and he was hiding from them," said Jeff Swan. "I told him there were a lot of police here and we could call the police and they could come help him but apparently he didn't like that. That's when he went out the gate." Police feared the suspect left that home and went to another, taking a woman hostage. The woman in question was later able to get out of the home safely. It is unclear whether she was actually held hostage or was simply staying inside her home due to all of the police activity. Police remained on the scene late Wednesday night to try to figure out whether the suspect was still there. As of 11 p.m., the scene was still active with no word on when officers would clear the area. The search was later called off.
