SALEM, Ore. - A 13-year-old girl who disappeared earlier this week, and whose parents discovered she had been leading a double life on MySpace, is home safe thanks to the help of Cricket Wireless.
Melissa Gregory ran away from home early Wednesday morning. She told a friend she had met a man online and was going to Washington or California.
Her parents knew she had a MySpace account as herself but after she disappeared they learned she had a second account under a different name and claimed to be 28 years old.
Police have been looking for Gregory all week but it wasn't until the CEO of Cricket Wireless saw a KATU News story (where we mentioned that Cricket would not release the teen's cell phone records for three weeks) that something happened in the case.
Within 30 minutes after seeing our report, the CEO immediately called the family and turned over a printout of the phone records. Using those records, Gregory's father was able to trace a call to the address of one of his daughter's girlfriends.
Gregory was found at the house and is now home safe with her family.
