The Molalla Police Department was investigating a stranger to stranger rape that occurred on June 21st, 2008 at 0130hrs. The incident took place near Sweigle St. and 4th St., Molalla, OR 97038, a residential area of the town.

During the investigation many items of evidence were sent to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for examination. Molalla Police Department was advised today by the Crime Lab that no physical evidence to link a suspect to the crime was found in the evidentiary items.

Molalla Police investigators consequently re-interviewed the victim this afternoon. During that interview the victim fully admitted that her report of the stranger rape was false. 18 year-old Joresa D. Jefferson, of Molalla, recanted the entire event, including the fact that she made up the description and that the sketch picture that was produced was fictional.

Jefferson now faces charges for Making a False Report, a Misdemeanor. Jefferson is now out of the state on vacation, and upon her return to Molalla she will be issued a citation to appear in Molalla Municipal Court.

Molalla Police would like to thank everyone who gave their time to assist the investigation, as well as all of the citizens that gave tips to possible suspects in this case.
