Investigators think Mallory Ewart used money raised for Gordon Patterson’s family to bail the suspected hit-and-run driver, Eugene Cellestine, out of jail. Ewart is reportedly Cellestine’s girlfriend.

A Portland police officer involved in the death of James Chasse while he was in police custody has been suspended by police Chief Rosie Sizer for an incident this past weekend, she announced Thursday afternoon at a news conference.

Tenants escape Raleigh Hills apartment fire

No one was hurt in the fire that started just before 4 a.m. on an end unit of the third story. The damage was severe to one unit, but there may be some additional damage to the adjacent unit's balcony. There are 18 units in the building that was on fire.

Letter noting assisted suicide raises questions

A Springfield woman's doctor hoped a new chemotherapy drug would help her but the Oregon Health Plan told her the treatment was not approved. Instead, the state would pay for assisted suicide.  "I'm not ready, I'm not ready to die," the Springfield woman said.
