Hay truck catches fire along I-5

EUGENE, Ore. - Traffic came to a standstill along Interstate 5 Wednesday afternoon after multiple fires broke out along the highway and a passing hay truck caught fire.

The fires broke out along a stretch of I-5 between Albany and Eugene.

Early reports had indicated the hay truck somehow caught fire and flames spread along I-5 as it was moving.  However, fire officials later said there were already fires along the freeway when the hay truck came through.

Traffic became a mess as fire crews worked on getting the blazes under control and ODOT crews worked to keep motorists moving by putting detours in place and closing some lanes.
