Weekend Get Out Guide!

Weekend Get Out Guide!

By Eric Collins, KATU.com Producer/Reporter

We learned this week that the corpse of Bigfoot was not found in Georgia. And that news couldn't have come a moment too soon for organizers of the Bigfoot Bash in southwestern Washington. Read below to find out why.

BIGFOOT BASH

The folks in Skamania County, Wash., claim to have the highest number of reported Bigfoot sightings in the world. So it seems fitting that county officials would hold the "Bigfoot Bash and Bounty," a three-day event celebrating the giant hairy being. Highlights include an open mic where you can share your personal stories about sightings or encounters with Sasquatch. You can also participate in a Bigfoot scavenger hunt, where prizes are awarded to those who find 12 different "Bigfoots" placed throughout the area. Who knows, maybe you'll find the real thing.

PIE FIGHT - AND MORE

Chances are you've never been to a Summer Cotillion. It's even more likely you've never been to one that involved a pie fight. Now's your chance. Head over to the Nomadic Theatre Studio in St. Johns Saturday dressed in your finest fines and they'll help you put a pie together for the event. Then you can engage in a beauty pie contest and competitive pie throwing, among other goings-on. Prizes are awarded. MORE

GEEK FAIR

The folks over at Free Geek, the Portland non-profit that recycles and refurbishes computers for the needy, are holding a Geek Fair Saturday that includes such tech-tailored events as "hard drive shuffleboard," and a "smashtacular" (use your imagination) along with live music and kids activities. The group is also selling bicycle helmets for $6 a piece.

STATE FAIR

The Oregon State Fair kicks off Friday for an 11-day run in Salem. They've got a wide variety of entertainment, from canine agility demonstrations, including dogs that can high jump a bar set at 5 feet, to a contest for baking the best Oregon marionberry pie, a Texas Hold 'em tournament and a wine celebration. And that's just happening this weekend. Check out all of the events.

EXPAND YOUR MIND - AND YOUR WAISTLINE

There's no shortage of events this weekend celebrating food and drink. In downtown Portland, Festa Italiana takes over Pioneer Courthouse Square for four days of fun including plenty of Italian music, a grape stomp and a pizza toss. Across the river, Vancouver is again hosting its Wine and Jazz Festival, featuring fine art, fine jazz and wine from more than 25 wineries.

- Have a great weekend!
