By Valerie Hurst and KATU Web StaffCLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. – Investigators are trying to figure out who fatally shot a 3-year-old horse while it was grazing in a Beavercreek-area pasture Sunday. Owners Chuck and Jennifer Lukenbill said they were stunned by the crime, which authorities believe may have been a random act. Chuck Lukenbill said he was working on his car at his home at 24663 South Ridge Road Sunday afternoon when he noticed the horse, named Yukon, lying motionless in the pasture. He hoped the horse was asleep but soon discovered that Yukon was shot. He had heard gunshots earlier but didn't think anything of it. "We hear gunshots out here all the time cause we're out here in the country," he said. The Lukenbills said Yukon was a sweet, calm animal that their five other horses loved. They believe the horse was shot sometime between noon and 3 p.m. The couple said they have no enemies and thought they lived in a nice neighborhood. Now they just want to find whoever did this so they don't have to fear for their other horses. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is offering a reward for information on the crime.
