Boy, 12, hit by SUV while walking on sidewalk
This sport utility vehicle hit a 12-year-old and then another car in Vancouver on Monday. By KATU Web StaffVANCOUVER, Wash. - A sport utility vehicle jumped a curb and struck a 12-year-old on a Vancouver sidewalk Monday, seriously injuring the boy, authorities said. According to police, 54-year-old Edward L. Cook of Vancouver was driving a Jeep Cherokee south on Northeast 136th Avenue about 4:45 p.m. when it drifted over the curb for an unknown reason and hit the child, who was walking along the sidewalk with another boy near Northeast 9th. After hitting 12-year-old Marcus Lee, the SUV continued along Northeast 136th and drifted into oncoming traffic several blocks away, striking a Hyundai sedan driven by 34-year-old Cidalia Riker of Battleground, police said. Both drivers and the 12-year-old were all taken to area hospitals. Lee was listed in fair condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland Monday night. Police continued to investigate the cause of the crash Monday. |
