Man swept into ocean near Cannon Beach

By KATU.com Web StaffNEAR CANNON BEACH, Ore. - The Coast Guard rescued a woman but searched in vain Sunday for a 25-year-old Portland man who fell into the ocean near Arch Cape south of Cannon Beach, authorities said. According to the Coast Guard, the man, Sokhak Peng, and the 33-year-old Portland woman were climbing on rocks in the area when the man slipped, fell into the ocean and was swept away. The woman stayed on the rocks, and a Coast Guard helicopter crew lifted her to safety. A helicopter search turned up no sign of the man. The search was called off Sunday evening. It was not immediately clear if the search would resume Monday morning. Peng is pictured at right in a photo from his MySpace page. |
