St. Helens man wins Megabucks jackpot
ST. HELENS, Ore. - A St. Helens man has won the $12.5 million Megabucks jackpot from Saturday's drawing.
Rod Schwirse matched all six numbers to become the Oregon Lottery's 216th Megabucks millionaire.
In claiming his prize on Monday, he chose to receive a lump sum payment of half of the jackpot - or $6.25 million - rather than the entire amount paid in 25 annual installments. State and federal taxes will lower his winnings.
Schwirse bought the winning ticket at the St. Helens Red Apple Market, which will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Schwirse's $4 Quick Pick ticket held eight sets of numbers. In his first set of numbers, he matched all six. The winning numbers were 5-12-25-29-31-43.
The winning ticket was one of 16,062 winning tickets from Monday's draw. Schwirse's prize is the 12th largest Megabucks jackpot ever won, according to Oregon Lottery officials.
