Horse that survived shot in head gets a new home
By Associated PressBEND, Ore. (AP) - A horse found wandering in the Three Sisters Wilderness area after it was found shot and wounded is getting a new home. The 6-year-old Arab gelding named Nikko was among about three dozen horses that belong to Camp Tamarack near the town of Sisters before it was shot in the head last month. A former camp employee, 27-year-old Russell Daniel Willeford of Banks, is facing animal abuse charges in the shooting. Veterinarians at the Bend Equine Medical Center had to remove the left eye of the horse, nicknamed "Trooper," and treat a leg injury. But they say he should recover enough to be rideable again after he is moved to his new home, the Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch near Bend.
